Harry Kane will not be involved tonight when England take on Greece in Nations League action.

The Bayern Munich star scored twice against Finland last time out but has not been named in the matchday squad at Wembley tonight.

England start without a recognised centre forward with Jude Bellingham likely to take up a false nine role with Cole Palmer also starting. Manchester City defender John Stones wears the captain’s armband.

Kane is not even among the substitutes in the capital tonight.

Why isn’t Harry Kane playing against Greece?

The Three Lions skipper sparked concern after he was forced to limp off in Bayern Munich’s final game before the international break in the 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kane was also forced off with an ankle issue the previous week in the 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen but returned for the midweek defeat to Aston Villa – an evening where he saw his performance was widely criticised in the German media.

Kane was replaced in the 73rd minute against Frankfurt on Sunday and has trained away from his England teammates this week.

The exact nature of the injury has not been disclosed with Carsley exercising caution with his skipper.

‘Harry’s nursing an injury, a small knock. Something that we won’t take a chance with,’ Carsley said.

‘We’re not ruling him out yet of the game, but he won’t start the game.

‘Hopefully he’ll be in contention then for Sunday (against Finland) but, again, time will tell. It’s not something I think we should be rushing.’

England confirmed starting XI vs Greece

Pickford, Alexander-Arnold, Stones, Colwill, Lewis, Rice, Bellingham, Saka, Palmer, Foden, Gordon.
