Harris Flays Trump on Recent Video Ad of the Attack on Capitol

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is directly invoking special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation to attack former President Donald Trump, in a new ad provided first to POLITICO.

“We knew it was bad. But it’s worse than we thought. Much worse than we thought,” reads the ad , between videos of the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, as Trump’s past comments play in the background. “We fight like hell. If we don’t fight like hell, we’re not going to have a country anymore,” Trump’s voice can be heard saying in the ad.

It’s a rare attack from the Harris campaign. While Harris — and President Joe Biden before her — have discussed the events of Jan. 6 on the campaign trail, Harris’ campaign has rarely made these attacks in paid advertisements. The digital ad will air in battleground states starting Sunday.

The ad comes after new developments from Smith’s investigation were detailed in a 165-page filing last week. Prosecutors charge that Trump attempted to hold onto power after he lost in 2020. Smith’s prosecutors wrote that “the defendant launched a series of increasingly desperate plans to overturn the legitimate election results.”

Trump’s running mate JD Vance declined answering whether Biden won the 2020 election during the vice presidential debate last week. Vance has repeatedly said in the past he would have asked the states to send alternate electors, and Trump still maintains he won an election he actually lost.

“He knew what he was doing,” the ad flashes on the screen. Then switching from a photo of former Vice President Mike Pence to a picture of Vance, the ad displays the words, “And next time there will be no one to stop him.”
