Successful people know the power of belief. They know that when it comes to deciding what things to believe in, what you choose to believe in can have a lasting impact on you. It’s no wonder, then, that there are so many quotes about beliefs that remind us just how important our beliefs are.

You don’t become what you want, you become what you believe- Oprah

Whatever the mind of a man can conceive and believe, he can achieve – Napoleon Hill

Whatever you want in life other people are going to want it too. Believe in yourself enough to accept the idea that you have an equal right to it. – Diane Sawyer

Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I shall have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning.- ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Your chances of success in any undertaking can always be measured by your belief in yourself – Robert Collier
Your beliefs can hold you back, or they can motivate you to succeed. They can make you feel strong and confident, or they can cause you to live in fear.

But are you aware of what your beliefs are? Do you know all the things you believe in?

The good news is that it’s possible to choose beliefs that empower you, and the fact that you’re reading this post means you’re one step closer to ensuring that you’re beliefs don’t sabotage you because you’re already aware of how important it is that you carefully choose the right things to believe in. That means having supportive and empowering beliefs.

So, instead of letting your self-limiting beliefs take charge and run the show, here are the things to believe in that will empower you to succeed.

10 Powerful Things To Believe In: These Beliefs Will Transform Your Life

1. Believe in Yourself and believe that you’re capable of achieving anything you want.

Do you put yourself down and doubt yourself? If so, then now’s the time to stop. Start believing in yourself and know that you’re capable of anything.
Here are some actions you can take that will help you to start believing in yourself:

Surround yourself with positive people
Celebrate your successes
Trust yourself and your gut instincts
Don’t beat yourself up about the small stuff
Keep a journal of your wins
Believe in the possibilities
As well as believing in yourself, another thing that separates the happiest and most successful people from the rest is the belief that anything is possible. Not without work, commitment, and the right mindset, of course. But that, ultimately, it is possible.

When you start putting limitations on what you believe is possible, that’s when you start holding yourself back from becoming the best that you can truly be.

Thomas A. Edison famously said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Had he not had the belief that anything was possible, it’s unlikely he would have been able to continue his work and ultimately reach success.

So, next time you start questioning if something’s really possible, remember, at some point, everything you enjoy and everything that makes your life easy, comfortable, and smooth in the world today, from technology to medicine to your mobile phone, all of it is a result of someone at some point believing in the possibilities.

2. Believe that you are in control of your life and your destiny

When life doesn’t go as planned, over and over, when your family gets sick, and when nothing seems to work, it can be too easy to sink into the belief that you are not in control of your life and that things just happen to you.

This is not an empowering thing to believe in. When you start to believe this, you give away your power, and you can feel like a victim of your circumstances.

If there’s one single powerful belief that you need to start believing right now, it’s that you are in the driving seat of your life. That you have control of your destiny and that you have the power to change your life direction at any time.

Now, I’m not saying it will be easy or quick, but I am saying that you can do it, but first, you must believe it.

3. Believe that there’s more than one solution to a problem
You’ve heard it said before: “ The answer to the problem was staring me right in the face.”

While this is sometimes the case, sometimes it’s also not. But what is true is that when you’ve tried one solution and it didn’t work, there’s always another solution that will work. You might not always have the answer, right away, and it might take some creative thinking, it could even be that the answer to your problem lies within someone that you know. The point is, there is an answer, you just haven’t discovered it… yet.

The reason this is such an important thing to believe in is that when you try something and it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road, maybe, there’s a solution that will work. You just need to find it.

4. Believe that your mistakes are a great way to learn
Apparently, Thomas Edison wasn’t the only one with the right attitude when it came to making mistakes.

“Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein

“If people refuse to look at you in a new light and they can only see you for what you were, only see you for the mistakes you’ve made, if they don’t realize that you are not your mistakes, then they have to go.” – Steve Maraboli
Clearly, mistakes are an important and essential part of life, but still, because of how many of us have been taught or brought up, we still fear making mistakes, and we can become obsessed with getting things right rather than trying and learning.

The more you can give yourself the freedom to make mistakes, the more you will learn and the faster you will learn.

5. Believe that the wrong road can lead to the right destination

Have you ever wished that something hadn’t happened or that you had made a different decision? We’ve all been there, and it can suck! Because in life, there’s no going back.

When we find ourselves in these situations, we can become consumed with the feeling that everything has gone wrong and we’re on the wrong path, to the point that we become blind to any new possibilities or opportunities that come our way as a result of the seemingly bad step.

Sure, things might not be how you thought they would be, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still be good or even great. What if this “wrong path,” this “ mistake,” IS the right path after all? What if you’re exactly where you’re meant to be? Learning the things you need to learn for something even greater that you have no idea about yet.

Your mistake could be the thing that leads you to a better destination, one that you hadn’t expected or planned for, and one that wouldn’t have come up had things gone exactly according to plan. This is another life-transforming and powerful thing to believe in.

6. Believe that to change your life, you must change yourself

To change your life for the better, you must look inward and change yourself for the better.

When you want your life to change for the better, one of the common mistakes many of us make is looking at what we can change externally first.

This way of thinking is the reason so many people make big changes in their lives only to find they still feel the same frustrations and unhappiness.

They have not done the internal work.

For example, leaving your job in pursuit of another job before first understanding why you’re truly unhappy or what you really want from a job or career can and often does lead to feeling happier for only a short time.

Changing your physical appearance to feel better about yourself will only bring temporary happiness if, deep down, you’re filled with self-loathing and lack self-love.

Too often, we choose the quick fix over the real work that will have lasting results.

When you accept that change happens from the inside out, your life changes.

7. Believe in the good in people.

When I started this blog and when I started the podcast, I had no connections, I didn’t have any special contacts, I was a nobody. Yet, today, I can say that I’ve had the pleasure and honor of interviewing some of the most inspirational and highly successful women. You can listen to the interviews with these great women here.

How did this happen? It was a result of two things.

Me reaching out to people and ASKING them to come on the show. This took courage and a belief that people are kind and good and that they would not laugh in my face, but instead, they would come and share their knowledge, experiences, and expertise in the hope of helping and inspiring others, and that’s exactly what so many people did.
The second reason I’ve been able to interview such incredible women is that many of these successful and inspirational entrepreneurs then went on to introduce me to others. They gave me an introduction, something I will always be grateful for. And this they did out of the kindness and goodness of their own hearts.
The takeaway here is that if you expect the worst from people, you should change that right away. Because most people are good. Most people want to help you and will help you if you would only ask… in the right way.

Do you expect the worst from people? This is something that I’ve definitely been guilty of in the past. My excuse was that I was just protecting myself from getting let down or hurt. But really, it’s because I was afraid of rejection. And you can’t achieve anything when living your life from a place of fear.

Expect good things from people, give generously of yourself as well, and you never know what may come of it.

8. Believe that life is about what you can do for others and how you can make other people’s lives better.

We hear that it’s best to be authentic, and part of this is about being vulnerable and open with people. But this isn’t always easy.

If you struggle to put yourself out there and be vulnerable, don’t beat yourself up because you’re not alone in this. That’s something many people struggle with, myself included.

What I’ve learned is that rather than focusing on yourself, the best place to put your focus is on what you can do for other people. How can you help other people?

When you ask yourself these questions and live from this place, then you’ll no longer be freaked at the idea of getting yourself out there so much. It might be a slow process, and you might not be jumping in front of a camera to do a live video daily or sharing every detail about yourself publicly, but you will find yourself able to be more open when you know it can help someone.

Shifting your focus to how you can help others will help you win in so many ways. From helping you overcome imposter syndrome when starting a business to giving you the strength to keep going at a job, you hate to continue supporting your family.

9. Believe that happiness lies in the process or journey and not in the destination

Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

You’ve probably asked this question at some point; let’s face it, we probably all have as children. Or perhaps your own children have asked it! But the truth is, we don’t realize that for many of us, the “are we there yet?” mindset is still with us.

What I mean by this is that we’re so focused on where we’re trying to go, the next thing, the next goal, the next achievement, that we often forget to enjoy the journey.

We end up living in a state of constant limbo, waiting for a someday that may never come or one that comes so late that we’ve lost so much of our life by the time it does.

What’s more, this someday might not be what you expect when you get there.

Because of this, believing in the journey is the key. And this belief will serve you in every scenario, whatever goal you’re working towards, and whatever destination you’re trying to reach.

This is something that James Clear talks about in his book Atomic Habits. When he talks about it in relation to success, it’s really about the small actions you take each and every day; that’s what you need to be focused on, rather than just the end destination.

10. Believe that you can choose how you respond in every moment

People push our buttons. Life pushes our buttons. Things don’t go our way. But in every moment, we always have a choice in how we respond. This is one of the truly empowering things to believe in.

But that’s something that’s easier said than done. You might know in your rational mind that how you respond is up to you, but whether or not you remember this in the heat of battle, whether that battle is with your website that just crashed or with a colleague, well, that’s another matter!

So, meditate on it, journal about it, affirm it. Do whatever you need to do to remember it. You can choose how you respond.

11. Believe in the power of your mind.

The biggest challenge you’ll ever have to face is overcoming your inner demons and taking control of your mind.

We’ve all got some kind of inner demon. At least, that’s what I like to call it. This could be that little voice inside your head that tells you you’re not worthy or that irrational fear that takes hold and threatens to hold you back.

Whatever your demon is, your mission is to slay it. That’s the biggest challenge any of us will ever face. Quieting the demon within our own heads.

And even though we’ve all heard it said in various different ways

“There’s nothing you can say that I haven’t already said to myself”

“ We are our own harshest critics”

“ We are our own worst enemies”

And on and on. We know these facts to be true, and yet we still forget them.

Remembering this can be the thing that sets you free. When you’re afraid to speak up and be true to yourself, when you’re afraid to take action for fear of judgment or of looking stupid, and when you’re frozen by your perfectionism.

Each of these situations can be made infinitely better if we just choose to believe in the fact that the biggest challenge we will EVER face is overcoming our own inner demons, our self-criticism, negative self-talk, etc.

When we believe this AND remember it to be the case, doing what we want to do or need to do becomes easier.

12. Believe that your intuition knows what’s best for you

Do you struggle to trust yourself and make decisions guided by your intuition? One thing that I’m working on is the skill of listening to my intuition, that inner guidance.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a time for data and following the numbers. But they don’t say “listen to your gut” for nothing.

We all have inner guidance. The problem is that it’s often very quiet. Your inner guidance, unlike your inner demon, wants to guide you in the right direction. It knows the right path for you if we would just give it a chance and listen when it speaks to us.

I’m sure you’ve had that feeling in your gut when you just know something isn’t right, but you couldn’t put your finger on what it was. That’s your inner guidance trying to communicate.

But too often, we get derailed by our logical brain.

Because your intuition might be sending you a message that doesn’t appear to make sense to your conscious mind at that moment. And here lies the issue. Most of us override this little voice; we overthink and overanalyze. Instead of trusting it.

I’m not sure about you, but there have been many times in my life when I listened to that quiet little voice, that feeling, and it’s seldom steered me wrong.

So why not make this the new thing you believe in? Your inner guidance. What would happen if you started listening to your inner wisdom more?

13. Believe in the possibilities.

Finally, what things do you believe can and can’t happen? Do you believe in the possibilities in life? This is one of the most important things to believe in. It’s so important it can’t be stressed enough.

Your future, your happiness, and your success all depend on you believing in the possibilities. And that’s sometimes without evidence.

Never forget, before Roger Bannister ran a 4-minute mile, no one believed it was possible. And it’s the belief that it wasn’t possible that was standing in people’s way.

When Bannister finally made this record, everyone believed. Of course, they had to believe it because they had now seen it. And this led to many countless others breaking this record and going far beyond!

So ask yourself, do you need to see to believe? Are you waiting for Roger Bannister to show you that your dreams are possible? Or are you doing as Roger Bannister did, believing that it’s possible and going for it, no matter what?

Now that you know the power of your beliefs, take one step towards building a strong believe.
