Luton Town manager Rob Edwards is confident Tahith Chong will make a swift recovery after he collapsed during last night’s defeat against Plymouth Argyle.
The former Manchester United winger caused panic and concern during the first half after he took a blow to the head and lay prostrate on the turffor several minutes.
After receiving treatment, the 24-year-old was able to make his way to the dressing room with the aid of doctors and physios but appeared to be sporting a large bump on his head.
Despite the apparent severity of the injury, Chong is unlikely to be out for a lengthy period but will be monitored carefully over the coming days.
‘He’s up and about and fine,” Edwards said after the match which ended in a disappointing 3-1 defeat for his side.
‘So we’ll see the extent of it concussion wise. He was a bit sore but he’s fine.’
Argyle’s win, meanwhile, continued their upward trajectory and came as another welcome boost for their manager Wayne Rooney who endured a difficult start to his Home Park tenure.
‘We were underestimated at the start of the season before we kicked a ball and then especially after the first game,’ said Rooney after the game. ‘But I think we’ve shown real character, we’ve shown the type of team we want to be, we’re getting the ball forward and creating chances.
‘It’s a big win for us tonight against a good Luton team. It’s a big win for a lot of our young players. I was delighted for the lads tonight, delighted for the fans – great atmosphere again, so a great start to the weekend.’
On Ibrahim Cissoko, who scored two superb second half goals, he added: ‘He’s a fantastic player and he showed his ability tonight when he came on. It wasn’t so easy telling him he wasn’t playing.
‘I felt late on in the game, I said to him yesterday, ‘Just trust in me, you’re going to come on and win us the game’. It’s always great as a manager when that happens and it shows to be true.’
