Nigeria @64: NANS to hold prayers in churches, mosques

As part of activities to mark the 2024 Independence Day celebration, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has revealed plans to hold prayers in mosques on Friday and churches on Sunday.

NANS President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, who stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, said the prayers will be held majorly in campuses across the country.

According to him, the exercise is aimed at begging God to protect “our country, help it attain its full great greatness and direct our leaders right”.

Emonefe also announced that there would be a nationwide rally across Nigerian campuses on Tuesday, the Independence Day.

“I hereby direct all our comrade leaders across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria to convene special Friday prayers tomorrow in mosques tomorrow to pray for this great country.

“On Sunday, special prayers will also take place across all churches located on our campuses to pray to almighty God to protect our country, help it attain its full great greatness and direct our leaders right.

“On Tuesday, being the Independence Day, mass rallies will hold on major campuses across the country to celebrate our dear motherland. The events would feature street carnivals, Know-Your-Country quiz, cultural displays, among others.”

Emonefe added that students would simultaneously converge at the Unity Fountain in Abuja and at Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, Lagos to commemorate the 64th Independence Day.
