The Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB) has emphasized the need for schools in the state to promptly comply with the September 23, 2024 resumption date by ensuring that teachers are ready to commence academic activities immediately.

This is even as ASUBEB advised schools not to use schoolchildren in the clearing of bushy school compounds, on resumption day.

Recall that the Abia State government had postponed the resumption of schools from September 16 to September 23 because of last Monday’s Public Holiday.

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Lydia Onuoha warned that defaulting schools would be severely punished and urged parents, guardians and school authorities to make their environment ready to welcome the pupils and students.

She said that assignment of classes to teachers and other preparations should have been concluded by education authorities in all the LGAs, for Monday’s resumption of teaching and learning.

The ASUBEB Chairman warned schools against using school children as labourers.

“I also urge all schools to ensure that the school environment is cleared come Monday, September 23rd 2024. I also want to appeal to schools to desist from using children to clear bushes in the school. We have agreed that schools should make arrangements to engage the services of those that will help out with the clearing of their bushes in and around the school premises.”

Onuoha announced that the Board would be on random inspection visits to schools and LGA education authorities to ascertain the level of compliance with the directive.

She said that education remains the top priority for the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
