Fuel price hike: Kwara CP urges commercial transporters to embrace peace

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has met with transporters unions over recent disruptions in the transport services in Ilorin arising from the increase in fuel pump price by the federal authorities.

He met with representatives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, MOUN, and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, TOAN, on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the command headquarters following the strike action embarked on September 5, 2024 in response to the recent hike in the price of PMS also known as petrol.

During the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, alongside his management team and Aliyu Muyideen, the Senior Security Adviser on Security to Governor AbdulRaham AbdulRazaq, admonished the transport unions to uphold peace always.

He emphasized that Kwara State is known for its harmonious, peace-loving nature and reassured the unions that the federal government is actively addressing the current economic situation to improve the lives of all Nigerians.

Olaiya also encouraged the transport unions to channel any concerns, particularly regarding security, through their chairmen.

He emphasised the importance of dialogue and cooperation, assuring them that Governor AbdulRazaq stands in full support of their well-being and is ready to assist them in all matters.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the continued safety and prosperity of all residents in Kwara State, according to a statement by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun.
