President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the takeover and conversion of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, Nasarawa.
This is following a request by the Nasarawa State Government, according to a statement signed by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
Ngelale explained that the conversion “will not only enhance the training of students in medical and allied sciences but also boost healthcare delivery in the state.”
According to the statement, Tinubu was committed to ensuring the social welfare and healthcare security of Nigerians and would aggressively sustain his administration’s investment drive and efforts in the sector.
Newspot reported that the Nasarawa State House of Assembly had in November 2023 voiced its dissatisfaction with the management of the hospital led by Dr. Hassan Ikrama.
The House was particularly concerned about the hospital management exceeding their approved budget.
The House expressed their dissatisfaction during an oversight function to the state-owned hospital.
