The Kogi State Government, in collaboration with Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, has initiated a revitalised effort to combat tuberculosis in the state.
The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, who was appointed TB Champion for Kogi State, pledged to mobilise support and resources to eradicate tuberculosis.
The wife of the governor stressed the importance of collective action in raising awareness and ensuring effective treatment for tuberculosis.
She called on local government chairmen and their spouses to be at the forefront of combating tuberculosis across the 21 local governments in the state.
“This event marked a significant milestone in Kogi State’s efforts to combat tuberculosis, with renewed commitment and collective efforts poised to drive positive change.
“Let us remain dedicated, focused, and determined to make a difference. Together, we can overcome the challenge posed by tuberculosis and build a healthier future for all,” she stated.
Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adeiza Adams, reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to healthcare excellence.
Dr. Adams emphasised Kogi State government’s investments in the health sector, including the enhancement of hospitals and health centres that provide tuberculosis treatments.
The acting Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Health, Dr. Barnabas Segun Isaac, described tuberculosis as a significant public health challenge, underscoring the importance of awareness and early detection.
He highlighted the impact of tuberculosis on individuals with weakened immune systems and its symptoms, such as persistent coughing.
On his part, the Programme Manager, Stop Tuberculosis Partnership Nigeria, Dr. Komolafe Rotimi, expressed gratitude to partners and the Kogi State Government for their leadership role in the campaign against tuberculosis.
He emphasised that tuberculosis is primarily airborne and spreads from person to person.
