Four Die of Suspected Food Poisoning In Kwara

Four people, including a mother and her three children, were found dead in their home from what was suspected to be  food poisoning in Kwara State.

The incident happened in the Oshin area along Asa-Dam Road in Ilorin, the state’s capital, after the family consumed what was believed to be contaminated rice.

The father, Alfa Ahmad, survived the tragedy and receiving treatment at undisclosed hospital.

The family’s firstborn, Abibat, was the first to succumb, followed by her mother and the other two children, Zainab and Abdulfatah, who all died in the early hours of Monday, August 19, 2024.

According to a family source, the rice was eaten on Saturday morning.

After consuming the meal, the parents left the house and returned later in the evening.

The firstborn began feeling ill and was rushed to the hospital, where she passed away.

The other two children were found vomiting upon the parents’ return and were also taken to the hospital.

The mother, who was rushed to the hospital on Sunday afternoon, died later that night along with the remaining children.

All four individuals died at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

Their bodies have been released to members of their family and preparations are underway for their burial at the Muslims’ Cemetery in Ilorin.
