The Scotland international has been tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer with less than a year remaining on his contract.
Though Erik ten Hag is content to keep him, selling him would raise valuable funds as United pursue top target Manuel Ugarte from PSG.
Fulham are long-time admirers of McTominay and earlier this window the Cottagers had two bids rejected with United valuing their player at upwards of £25million.
But in the last few days it appeared that Napoli had become the frontrunners for his signature and were in talks with the Red Devils, with Antonio Conte keen on the box-to-box midfielder.
However, a move to the Serie A giants appears to be in doubt, with The Sun claiming that McTominay has changed his mind about leaving England and wants to stay in the Premier League.
Moreover, other reports suggest that Napoli’s move relies on the sale of Victor Osimhen which is stalling amid links to Chelsea and PSG.
On Saturday, Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna was unable to give an update on the Italian’s pursuit of McTominay as well as his Scotland teammate Billy Gilmour, saying: ‘They are good, strong players. Let’s see what happens in the next few days.
‘It’s useless to make forward momentum today there is the game and after the game, we will think about the market.’
But even if Napoli are out of the race, Marco Silva’s side will still face competition over the transfer with The Sun adding that Crystal Palace and Brighton are also interested.
McTominay nearly left Old Trafford last summer for West Ham but stayed and enjoyed his best season to date, scoring 10 goals in 43 games, a tally bettered only by Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes.
He’s begun United’s first two games of this campaign on the bench however, with the Red Devils next in action on Saturday when they travel to Brighton.
