A group, Organization for Concern of Less Privileged and Displaced Citizens in Zamfara State has demanded justice for Magaji Lawal who was allegedly killed extrajudicially by suspected members of the State Community Protection Guard, CPG.

The group vowed that it would continue to monitor the case so that justice will not be miscarried.

In a statement issued by the chairman of the group, Mallam Mustapha Ibrahim, made available to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital, the chairman said that the group was asking for justice in the case.

The statement commended the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Dalinja for his commitment to investigating the case.

“According to the Commissioner, members of the CPG claimed that they did not kill Magaji Lawal, alleging that their former Commander, Col. Rabiu Yandoto, (rtd) was responsible for the killing.

“The CPG members stated that Col. Yandoto called them and asked if they had arrested Magaji Lawal.

“Retired Col. Yandoto drove to the scene, took the keys to the cell where Magaji was held, and later emerged to announce that he had completed his work. After he left, the CPG members discovered Magaji’s lifeless body.

“The Commissioner also clarified that the case is not politically motivated but rather a matter of murder, which will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted”

“Col. Yandoto retired is a prime suspect in the killing of the late Magaji Lawal. He is the former Commander of the CPG who was sacked by the State government and is currently under investigation for his alleged role in the murder.

“We commend the Commissioner for his commitment to an impartial investigation, unaffected by potential political connections. This dedication to justice is truly commendable.

“We further urge the Commissioner to continue investigating the killings of innocent people, including Iman Hassan Mada. The community needs reassurance that those responsible will be held accountable.

“We also commend the Zamfara State government for sacking Col. Yandoto as Commander of the CPG and urge the State government to ensure that justice is served to the Magaji family,” the group stated.
