Manchester United’s top transfer target, Matthijs de Ligt, is now being investigated by the police for a hit-and-run incident in Bavaria.
De Ligt currently plays for German Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, having joined from Juventus in 2022.
German outlet BILD reports that the Dutch defender slammed into a parked car close to his club’s training ground.
The report says that instead of informing the authorities, the defender fled the scene.
It was said that a witness then called the police after which De Ligt’s vehicle was towed away.
However, a specialist lawyer in Munich said the player could only be fined for such an offence.
The legal practitioner, according to the report, further clarified that the maximum punishment can go up to three years in prison.
A major factor in such cases is reportedly whether the nature of the accident was intentional or not.
The police have seemingly not commented on the matter for the time being.
