Bangladeshi Parliament dissolved amid protest

Bangladesh’s parliament has been dissolved after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country following violent protests demanding her ouster.

The president’s office made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday.

The announcement came hours after protesting student leaders set a deadline to dissolve parliament, warning to launch a strict programme if their deadline was not met.

Newspot reports that Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Monday resigned, following weeks of student violent protests that left roughly more than 300 people dead.

Following news of Hasina’s resignation, numerous Awami League offices and leaders’ homes across Dhaka and other areas were attacked and looted.

Meanwhile, Army Chief, Gen. Waker-Uz-Zaman told a news briefing on Monday after a meeting with leaders of different political parties, excluding those from Hasina’s Awami League party.

Uz-Zaman, who called on protesting students to remain patient and refrain from further violence, promised that justice will be done for all those killings and atrocities, appealing to the people to keep confidence in the army.
