Protest organizers in Osun State have announced that they will convene to decide their next course of action after President Bola Tinubu appealed for the suspension of protests and proposed dialogue.
Mr Ajala Adetunji, the Osun Coordinator of the Coalition of Concern Nigeria Citizens, the group spearheading the protest, stated that the presidential appeal will be reviewed by all involved in the protest.
“The protest is not a one-man show, especially concerning Osun’s case,” Adetunji said.
“As far as the presidential address this morning is concerned, Mr President did not address any of our concerns. The president was not specific about what the government will do to address the demands of the youth,” he added.
According to him, the president’s call for dialogue is a general appeal without clear indicators of what will be done.
“However, we will still meet to deliberate. As it stands, the protest continues in Osun,” he said.
Waheed Lawal, Chairman of the Osun People’s Coalition Society, a group also involved in the protest, indicated that the presidential appeal will be reviewed by various participating groups.
Lawal mentioned that the leadership of these groups will need to meet and decide on the next steps following the president’s appeal.
“The protest is a nationwide issue, and Nigerians must decide on the next course of action. However, I believe that the president did not address the demands of the protesters, and the masses will decide what will be done next,” he said.
Recall that President Tinubu, during his national address on Sunday, urged protest organizers to suspend their demonstrations following the recent violence and destruction experienced over the past three days.
Protesters gathered at Freedom Park in Osogbo on Sunday and continued their march into the streets as part of the nationwide protest.
