A renowned activist, Comrade Idris Miliki, has called for the removal of all caretaker committee chairmen across the 21 local government areas of Kogi State.

Miliki, who is the Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR), made the call in a statement on Wednesday titled “These Illegal Caretaker Chairmen in the 21 Local Governments in Kogi State Must Go Now.”

He called on Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and his government to quickly make resources available for the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to enable it to conduct credible, free, fair, and acceptable elections.

“The illegal caretaker chairmen put in place on July 5, 2024, by the Kogi State House of Assembly for six months can no longer stand, as many of these illegal chairmen may be willing to contest for the same elections through their political party, which will bring contradiction, further promote illegality, and give unnecessary advantage.

“We call on the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Ododo, to immediately remove these illegal caretakers and replace them with the Directors of Local Government across the State, who will be there for the next three months, which in itself is legal. That is what should have been done in the first place rather than this illegal caretaking, as pronounced by the famous judgment of the Supreme Court on July 11, 2024,” he stated.
