An overnight thunderstorm knocked down trees and brought power outages early Tuesday across the Central Savannah River Area (or CSRA,)
The National Weather Service said the storm was a microburst. A microburst is column of fast-moving sinking air that can cause destruction as the wind hits the ground and spreads in all directions.

Georgia Power had mostly restored service by 3:30 p.m., but more than 225 Jefferson Energy customers around Hephzibah and about 100 in the Cobbham Road area east of Thomson were still without electricity.
On Monday night, trees and powerlines were down in Columbia County near Cobbham Road.

Rain could be ahead in coming days for the CSRA.
Pop-up afternoon storms will be possible the next few afternoons. Thursday into Friday a cold front will move into the region and stall bringing higher rain chances and cooler high temperatures.
