The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has embraced the Performance Management System (PMS), a new assessment regime for civil servants, replacing the ineffective Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER). The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede made this declaration during a staff training exercise, highlighting the limitations of APER in objectively evaluating performance.

The government has adopted PMS, a more just, fair, and objective assessment system. APER, according to the Registrar, has failed to hold staff accountable for subpar performance, non-compliance, and lack of dedication, often resulting in inflated ratings. He deemed APER a fraudulent instrument, yielding unreliable results.

In contrast, PMS offers a scientific approach, addressing the shortcomings of APER. The Registrar encouraged staff to take advantage of the training, emphasizing the Board’s commitment to prioritizing staff welfare and providing relevant training to enhance their competitiveness in the 21st-century workplace.
