Wimbledon is back for 2024 and many tennis fans want to know if Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray will play at the Championships this year.
Raducanu did not feature at Wimbledon last year, with the one-time major champion missing the action in SW19 due to long-term injury issues.
Murray did play at Wimbledon in 2023, though, narrowly crashing out in the second round to fifth-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in an epic five-set battle.
But the 37-year-old two-time Wimbledon champion is nearing retirement and picked up a concerning new injury problem at Queen’s Club this week.
So, will British duo Raducanu and Murray play at Wimbledon in 2024 ahead of the Championships getting underway on July 1? Read below to find out…
Is Andy Murray playing at Wimbledon in 2024?
Well… Andy Murray had confirmed that he will play at Wimbledon this year…
But that came before he picked up a fresh back injury at Queen’s Club on Wednesday, which forced him to retire from his match against Jordan Thompson.
Murray is set for a scan on Thursday to determine the severity of his back injury and is now unable to fully commit to Wimbledon until he gets the results.
Asked if he would play Wimbledon 2024 on Wednesday, Murray said: ‘I wouldn’t know. I didn’t get the right side of my back treated after the French Open [a few weeks ago].
‘All tennis players have degenerative joints in the back but it’s all predominantly been left-sided for me, for pretty much my whole career. I’ve never had too many issues with the right side.
‘Maybe there’s something which can be done between now and then with my right side – will have a scan tomorrow and re-check and see what can be done.
‘I don’t know exactly what the problem is. I just know I haven’t experienced that before – the back pain today and yesterday. I don’t know what the procedure will be or what to expect.’
The British hero has been very open about his plans for retirement and was plotting to play the Championships for the last time before hanging up his racket.
Murray is due to feature not only in the men’s singles but in the men’s doubles after teaming up with his brother Jamie – but he now faces a race against time.
Is Emma Raducanu playing at Wimbledon in 2024?
Yes. Emma Raducanu’s participation at Wimbledon 2024 was confirmed this week amid news that she had been awarded a wildcard in order to compete.
Raducanu, who tasted Grand Slam glory in New York three years ago and was ranked as high as world No.10 in 2022, did not qualify automatically due to her low ranking.
The 21-year-old has slipped right down the WTA standings after a long spell away from the Tour in 2023 due to huge injury problems and subsequent surgery.
Raducanu should be more than fresh for the Championships after she surprisingly skipped the French Open to focus on the the grass-court season – although she recently lost to fellow Brit Katie Boulter in Nottingham – who clinched the title.
