Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.has lodged a formal complaint of accusations of alleged sexual harassment against the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ambassador Ibrahim Lamuwa, with the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation
In a letter dated May 27, 2024, addressed to the HOCSF Tuggar expressed his concern regarding the serious nature of the allegations levelled against Lamuwa by Mrs. Simisola Ajayi.
He emphasized the need for urgent and thorough investigation of the matter.
The letter, Titled “Re: Official Complaint About Mrs. Simisola Fajemirokun Ajayi’s Sexual Harassment” “I am compelled to write to inform you of a formal complaint against the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ibrahim Adamu Lamuwa, on allegations of sexual harassment,” the letter signed by the Permanent Secretary,
“Considering the seriousness of the situation, I believe it is vital to bring it to your attention and request that you handle it appropriately.”
Tuggar promised the HOCSF that he would fully cooperate with the investigation, and he included the email complaint that he had received.
“I would like to reassure you that I am still accessible to offer any support needed to fulfill your obligations,” he continued.
The Ministry’s spokesperson, Amb. Eche Abu-Ode, confirmed the development in an interview on Tuesday, stating, “Yes.
The complaint is true.” When contacted for his reaction, Lamuwa declined to comment, citing ongoing engagements.
Similarly, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Special Assistant on Media and Communications, declined to respond, saying, “No comment.
The proper authorities are investigating the incident. In a plea to Tuggar dated May 29, 2024, Ajayi accused the permanent secretary of harassing her sexually on a regular basis.
She demanded a comprehensive investigation into Lamuwa’s behavior through her attorney, Femi Falana (SAN), alleging incidents of harassment that have led to a dangerous workplace.
