The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has struck out Section 3 of the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission Law, as amended in 2024 by Martins Amaewhule and 27 others, from the Rivers State laws.
Presiding judge, Justice Dagogo Jack, ruled that the law was inconsistent with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which grants the governor the power to appoint the chairman and members of executive bodies in the state.
Justice Jack further noted that the same law also gave the governor the authority to appoint the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission.
Newspot reports that the judge restrained the governor and the Attorney General of the state from enforcing the law as passed by Amaewhule and 27 others.
