Youths in Nigeria have been advised to shun illegal immigration overseas and to embrace the opportunities available in the country, to avoid issues that accompany the “Japa Syndrome”.
The call was made on Thursday in Yenagoa, during the launch of the “Japa Youth project: Voices of the unheard”, initiated by the Dise Ogbise Foundation, in collaboration with other sister organisations, to address issues associated with illegal immigration of Nigerian youths.
The youths were warned against illegal immigration, which experts claimed has led many to deaths, involvement in illegal drug peddling, promotion of human trafficking and many other vices which has destroyed many lives.
At the event, the immediate past Commissioner of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Bayelsa State, Collins Cocodia and other prominent Bayelsans, including Felix Omemu, Josephine Igodo mni, Dr Marie Teibowei and others enjoined all Nigerian youths to stay back in the country and make use of what is available, to get the good life they desire.
One of the major highlights of the event was an awareness road walk to alert youths of the dangers of illegal immigration.
