Teenage Ajax prospect Jorrel Hato has made it clear to Arsenal and any other interested parties that he will remain with the Dutch giants for at least another season.
The 18-year-old defender has been impressive despite Ajax’s struggles over the recent campaign, winning their prestigious Talent of the Year award.
The youngster, who can play at centre-back or left-back, has already racked up 61 appearances for Ajax, playing 46 times in all competitions last season.
Hato has also been handed his international debut already, winning his first cap for Netherlands last year at just 17 years old.
His rapid progress has attracted attention from the Premier League, with Arsenal thought to be especially keen on the Dutchman, while Manchester United have also been credited with an interest.
However, they will both be disappointed if they were plotting a move this summer as Hato says he is going nowhere.
‘No, I’ll just play for Ajax next season,’ the defender told AjaxLife of his immediate future. “I haven’t finished learning here yet. And I want to win prizes with Ajax. That was my dream when I came here.’
It was a nightmare campaign for Ajax that saw them finish fifth in the Eredivisie, an incredible 35 points behind champions PSV.
Alfred Schreuder, then worked with John Heitinga, Maurice Steijn and John van ‘t Schip.
Hato has already played under Alfred Schreuder, then worked with John Heitinga, Maurice Steijn and John van ‘t Schip, with Francesco Farioli taking over ahead of next season and he admits it has been an odd time.
‘Very bizarre actually, so many trainers in a year and a half,’ he said. ‘It is what it is. It is time for peace to return.’
