Governor Sule approves over N30bn for underpass, flyover, other projects in Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has approved over N30 billion for the construction of an underpass and flyover in Lafia, alongside several rural development projects across the state.

During a recent state executive council meeting, Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Ibrahim Uthman Angbolo, detailed the approvals while speaking with journalists.

According to Angbolo, key among the projects is the construction of a 1-kilometer underpass and flyover in Lafia, estimated at N16.6 billion, stating that the contractor has been directed to commence work immediately to alleviate traffic congestion in the state capital.

He added that the council has approved N3.2 billion for the construction of three new roads to further decongest Lafia and enhance traffic flow.

“Again, within Lafia metropolis, you will see that there are link roads to the major highways that traverse the city, and to ease movement and traffic grid, council considered a number of roads within the city for construction and approved the construction of these roads at the total sum of N2.3 billion,” the commissioner said.

The commissioner stated that Akwanga, the headquarters of Akwanga Local Government Area, will undergo a facelift, costing N7.91 billion. The council also approved a contract worth N61.5 million for a link road connecting Kwandere-Keffi Road to Mada Station.

“In view of the determination of the government to give the three senatorial zones headquarters facelift, council approved the urban renewal of Akwanga by the construction and dualization of some roads linking Keffi Road from the roundabout and Lafia Road from the roundabout in Akwanga to the tune of N7.91 billion.

“In a bid to improve the working environment of civil service and civil servants, the government has decided to award contracts for the construction of a befitting secretariat.

“It’s on this note that, having awarded the contract for Phase One, Lot 1 and 2, the government saw the need to expand the project by awarding the contract for the construction of the Phase Two of the project to increase the number of buildings to be delivered, so that, it would accommodate more ministries.

“At this juncture, the council approved the award of contracts for the construction of the Phase Two new government secretariat at the cost of N6.8 billion,” he stated.

Angbolo It is further stated that the design of the entire secretariat complex has been approved at a cost of N991.1 million. In Doma, a modern market will be constructed at N971.1 million, and adjoining stores and warehouses in Lafia Square will be completed at a cost of N263,387.
