Public and private schools in Osun State have been directed to commence reciting the reintroduced national anthem; “Nigeria, We hail thee!”

The directive, which was issued by the Osun State Government, was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Murtala Jimoh on Friday.

Newspot recalled that President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, assented to a bill by the National Assembly for the nation to return to the old national anthem.

The bill sought to return the old national anthem “Nigeria, We hail thee” in place of the, “Arise O compatriots” adopted by the Olusegun Obasanjo military regime in 1978.

The state government through the statement directed that all schools in the state ensure that they commence reciting the returned anthem during their morning assembly.

“All heads of schools in both private and public schools to ensure their pupils/students learn the Anthem and begin to sing it henceforth.

“The Federal Government recently approved a new National Anthem for the country, it is therefore pertinent for schools across Osun State to comply with this directive.

“As a result, all heads of schools in both public and private schools should ensure compliance in their various schools.

“It is expected that it is the new Anthem that should be rendered during their various morning assemblies and this should be done as a matter of duty.”
