British hopes took a dent on the opening day of the tournament as Jack Draper and Andy Murray crashed out in the first round, the latter losing to Stanislas Wawrinka in what could be his last appearance in the competition.
Elsewhere in the men’s draw, Djokovic will look to improve on his disappointing early-year form to claim his fourth French Open title, but the Serb faces competition from contenders Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Nadal, meanwhile, will hope for a deep run in Paris to sign off in style but the Spaniard must deal with a tough opening-round draw against World No.4 Alexander Zverev.
In the women’s draw, Swiatek remains the hot favourite after picking up titles in Madrid and Rome in the build-up to Roland Garros.
The Pole could capture her third straight French Open title, but will likely have to get past key contenders Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina to do so.
