The 2024 Career and Education Fair, held on Tuesday, 14th May, 2024, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was filled with excitement as JAMB State Coordinator, Uyo, Mrs. Grace Olima-William, delivered a thought-provoking paper titled: “Increasing the Chances of Admission into Desired Programme/Institution.” The fair was organised by Dr. Iboro Idem of Ultra Tomorrow Educational Consult and was aimed at empowering students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their academic pursuits.In her presentation, Mrs. Olima-William, emphasized the importance of education in the quest to realise Nigeria’s developmental aspirations. She cited the federal government’s 6.3.3.4, among others, as part of the laudable policy initiatives to ensure that Nigerian students qualify education. Furthermore, she outlined the guidelines and criteria for securing admission into desired institutions and programmes, citing good UTME and O’ level scores, proper subject combinations, as well as adherence to extant guidelines and criteria.Mrs Olima-William also shed light on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), introduced in 2017 to ensure fair and transparent admission exercises. She explained how candidates can monitor their admission process on CAPS, and gave the interpretation of the various colours that represent the different stages of the admission process. To enhance their chances of securing admission, she advised candidates to work hard, commit to their studies, choose institutions within their catchment area and select programmes related to their secondary school subjects.In conclusion, the Coordinator emphasized that by following these tips, candidates could significantly increase their chances of admission into their desired programmes and institutions
