Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has cleared the air that the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, was not under threat of arrest as claimed in some quarters.

Factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Okechukwu Isiguzoro made this known in a statement he issued on Friday.

Describing the outrageous criticism of the federal government’s Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project as baseless, he called on Obi and the Minister for Works, David Umahi, to engage in mutual dialogue.

Ohanaeze, according to the statement, “dismisses rumours of impending arrest of Mr Obi as fallacious fabrications propagated by malicious instigators seeking to disrupt the commendable work being carried out under Senator Umahi’s diligent leadership as the minister.”

The statement further denounced what it termed “unwarranted vilification targeted at Senator Dave Umahi by Peter Obi and others” and then underscored the necessity for diplomatic and private engagement over public confrontations that may impede the progress of Southeastern infrastructure development and the nation at large.

Ohanaeze reiterated the call for “respectful dialogue and collaboration among the two former governors.”

Obi recently criticised the federal government over the demolition of taxpayers’ structures along the route.
