Felix Akhabue, a former governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the September 21, election in Edo State, has resigned from the party.
Newspot reports that Akhabue was one of the 10 governorship aspirants that protested against the conduct of ward and local government congresses of the party ahead of the party primary election which was held in February.
Akhabue, a former, chairman of Esan West Local Government Area as well as Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Cooperative and Industry in Governor Godwin Obaseki’s first tenure, dumped the party in a letter dated May 6, 2024, and addressed to the Ward 7 chairman of the party in Esan West local Government Area.
He also copied the resignation letter to Chairman, Esan West LGA of the party, state chairman and the National Working Committee of the party.
The letter reads: “I write to formally notify the party through your office of my resignation as member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, henceforth.
“My decision to resign is borne out of the glaring prejudicial activities of the party’s Leadership against my fair, reasonable and continuous participation as a member of the party.
“I wish to use this opportunity to appreciate some genuine friends in the party we have worked together in the past years.”
Akhabue is a member of Legacy Group faction of PDP in the state.
