William Gallas has urged Chelsea to reappoint Jose Mourinho this summer as speculation continues to mount over the future of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues enhanced their hopes of securing European qualification following last night’s 2-0 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Despite that encouraging result, Pochettino insisted he remains in the dark as to whether or not he will be granted a second season in charge of the west London club.

‘With this team, with young guys, of course I have the responsibility,’ Pochettino told Sky Sports.

‘But at the same time, we know the circumstances. I want to say, enough is enough, all the managers need time to translate their ideas and their philosophy. more when the team is [young like ours]. We need to have time. But it is not my decision.’

Asked if he fears the decision will be taken out of his hand, Pochettino continued: ‘I don’t know., it is difficult to see every single week that I am [under] scrutiny and judgement, yes. But it is not my decision to be here or not to be here.’

Mourinho’s availability, meanwhile, has raised the intriguing prospect of a third spell in charge at Stamford Bridge for the Special One.

Sacked by Roma earlier this season, the 61-year-old is determined to make a return to management at the earliest opportunity.

And Gallas, who won two Premier League title at Chelsea under Mourinho, feels that of all the options available to him a return to west London represents the best fit for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid boss.

‘I really hope that there is an opportunity for Jose Mourinho to come back and manage another big club in the Premier League next season,’ Gallas told told Gambling Zone. ‘He has to do something because he is a special manager. I want to see him coaching again. I would love to see him back in the Premier League managing one big club.

‘The Premier League is about to lose Jurgen Klopp. Next season, the only big, big managers in the league will be Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, and Mikel hasn’t won the league yet.

‘There is room for another prestigious manager to come in and compete with those two and I think that Jose Mourinho could be the man to do it. We need one more big manager in the Premier League.

‘If Mourinho came back, it would be good for the Premier League and it would be exciting. I think everyone would be excited by the prospect of seeing Mourinho pitting his wits against Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta – something would happen. There would be fireworks.’

Asked if he saw any potential opportunities for Mourinho, he added: ‘That is a good question. I actually think the best club for him would be to come back to Chelsea. That would be the best possible option for Mourinho.

‘The best thing for Mourinho would be to return to Chelsea. The question is, if he comes back to Chelsea, he will need players with a different mentality and players with more quality than Chelsea currently have. He asks a lot of his players – he demands a lot – and that can be a problem for some players that don’t have the quality to give him what he needs.’
