Manchester United have ‘made contact’ with Thomas Tuchel over the possibility of the Bayern Munich head coach replacing Erik ten Hag.
That’s according to new reports in Germany, which have emerged following United’s narrow FA Cup victory over Coventry City on Sunday.
Tuchel is leaving Bayern at the end of the season and it is thought that managing United would be his dream job.
It was reported back in January that United had shortlisted Tuchel as a candidate to succeed Ten Hag.
It is now thought that United have made contact with Tuchel and that minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe ‘highly values’ the former Chelsea boss.
Ratcliffe has reportedly asked Tuchel ‘about a commitment for the coming season’ if the Red Devils decide to part ways with Ten Hag.
Speaking after United beat Coventry on penalties this weekend to reach the FA Cup final, Jamie Carragher tipped Ten Hag to be sacked.
‘I think that result has just cost Erik ten Hag his job,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports. ‘I don’t see how he stays, I really don’t.
‘It’s just poor performance after poor performance. That dressing room is probably the most embarrassed dressing room from a team that has just won a big game.
‘You can’t even celebrate that win. Maybe that can somehow win the final but I just don’t see any progress. This is somebody’s job we’re talking about but I just don’t see how they [the owners] can look at the situation and be positive about it. I don’t see it.’
Speaking back in January, Tuchel said that he felt ‘more appreciated’ working in England than Germany.
Tuchel was Chelsea’s head coach between 2021 and 2022, helping the west Londoners win the Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup.
The Blues sacked Tuchel in controversial circumstances, with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali deciding to replace him with Graham Potter.
