The Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, better known by its Hausa derivation as Ekklesiyar Yan’Uwa A Nigeria, EYN, has elected a new leadership.
The new president of the denomination is Daniel Mbaya, with Rev Nuhu Mutah Abba as the new vice president.
Described as the largest Church of the Brethren national denomination in the world, the EYN has its headquarters in Kwarhi, Adamawa State and church branches mostly across states in the North East.
Newspot learnt from multiple sources Sunday that the 77th General Church Council meeting, otherwise termed Majalisa 2024, which ended at the weekend, elected the new officials.
According to the sources, Daniel Mbaya became the new EYN president by polling 1,112 votes, while Nuhu Abba got 1,057 to become the new vice president.
It was unclear at press time Sunday afternoon who got the position of General Secretary and about three other positions, but it is noteworthy that the new president, Daniel Mbaya was the general secretary from 2016 until he entered for the position of president in the course of the just concluded Majalisa 2024 after eight years as general secretary.
Rev Joel Billi was the EYN president from 2016, holding the position for the eight years that elapsed during the election segment of the 77th Majalisa.
An EYN in-house report on the election indicates that after the voting process, Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Richard Balami announced the results for both president and vice president.
Newly-elected President Daniel Mbaya expressed his gratitude to God and pledged to pursue reconciliation to achieve unity in the church.
