Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, University of Ilorin branch, will comply fully with the 7-day warning strike declared by their national bodies which begins today, Monday.
Comrades Ibrahim Zubar, and Falowo Olushola Naheem, Chairmen of NASU and SSANU, respectively, of the two unions in the university, said this in a separate chat with Newspot in Ilorin on Sunday.
The warning strike, according to Comrade Falowo, is to force the Federal government to meet some unfulfilled demands of the unions.
The demands include regotiation of 2009 FGN/NASU/SSANU agreement, reconstitution of governing councils, payment of four months withheld salaries, release of earned allowances and improved funding of public universities.
“The expectations from our members are simple, stay away from duty for seven days.
“Of all the above demands the one that triggered the 7-day warning strike is the non-payment of our four months withheld salaries while our sister union, ASUU was paid four months out of their eight months withheld salaries,” he added.
Also speaking on the same issue, Comrade Ibrahim, branch Chairman of NASU, said there will be total compliance by members of the union.
Ibrahim declared that he does not expect to see any member on duty for the duration of the 7-day warning strike.
“All members of the union will stay off duty and will not go to work as directed by the national body,” he said.
Newspot reports that the national bodies of the two unions declared the 7-day warning strike after the expiration of the ultimatum given to the federal government.
