Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State staged a peaceful protest at the weekend to voice their displeasure over the suspension of their senator, Abdul Ahmed Ningi.

Newspot reports that Ningi was suspended for three months after alleging that the 2024 budget was padded.

Addressing journalists during the protest, the Bauchi youths, under the aegis of Coalition of Ningi PDP Youth Groups, led by the chairman of the party in the Local Government Area, Alhaji Dan Lamin, described the suspension of the lawmaker as “uncalled for and undemocratic”.

Lamin said the group will pursue the issue diligently until the truth about the alleged budget padding is uncovered.

The demonstrators urged the Senate to reverse its decision, asserting that Ningi did not violate any national laws, as guaranteed by the Constitution’s freedom of expression clause.
