The wife of Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Rosina Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has called on wives of deceased police officers who lost their lives in discharge of their duties to use various skills they have acquired to support in catering for the needs of their families.
Mrs Danmamman, who is also the state Chairperson of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) made this call at the celebration of 2024 International Women’s Day and Empowerment of 100 widows in Minna.
She stated that although it is not easy losing their breadwinners, the various skills acquired during their trainings would help in overcoming some of the challenges confronting them and their children.
On the International women’s Day celebration, the state POWA chairperson noted that women play an integral role in the society, and are crucial to the growth and development of communities.
However, she noted that over the years, they have been relegated to the sidelines and subjected to discrimination and marginalization.
“In recent years, there has been growing awareness of the importance of women in the society.
“Despite this perceived marginalization, women have distinguished themselves and excelled in different areas of specialization.
*Women have contributed immensely to nation building in different sectors such as economy, education, empowerment and even political participation.”
Mrs Danmamman further explained that it was in recognition of their contributions in the society that the Inspector General of Police , IGP Egbetokun, appointed the Force Gender Officer, AIG Aishatu Abubakar, who advises him on female officers’ matters, and also coordinates female officers’ affairs.
