Graham Potter and Dan Ashworth have reportedly held a secret meeting over the former Chelsea boss becoming the new manager of Manchester United.
Potter is believed to be Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s No.1 choice if United part ways with Erik ten Hag at the end of the season amid a poor 2023-24 campaign thus far.
Ratcliffe has already met with Potter to discuss the job and he has now held further talks with incoming sporting director Ashworth, according to The Sun.
Potter has not managed a club since being sacked by Chelsea in April after less than a season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Englishman is still highly rated by many top clubs, though, following his impressive work at Brighton.
Ratcliffe, in charge of United’s football operations after acquiring 25 per cent of the club, had previously tried to bring in Potter at French club Nice.
But the 48-year-old is waiting for a major job opportunity to come up having turned down a number of offers.
It is thought that Potter would be interested in replacing Ten Hag should the opportunity become available.
Zinedine Zidane is also admired by Ratcliffe but it is thought that the Frenchman would snub the job at Old Trafford.
Zidane has not managed a club since leaving Real Madrid at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
