The Police Commissioner for the Federal Capital Territory, Benneth Igweh, has moved against cars with no number plates or those with just one number plate on FCT roads.
The Commissioner made this known during a meeting on Saturday 3 February 2024 with Police Command members, leaders, and heads of departments. They include Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, as shared by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
In a statement by The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh. stated that “The Commissioner of Police FCT, Benneth Igweh, had a meeting with the Management Team, leaders of all tactical units, and Heads of Departments of the FCT Police Command, including Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers on Saturday.”
She added, “The meeting was aimed at changing the way security is done and making plans to keep residents in the Federal Capital Territory safe.”
Commissioner Igweh emphasized the use of intelligence and being visible in policing, like doing regular stops and searches, to fight crime. He also talked about working closely with communities and having no tolerance for not doing the job well.
Adeh continued, “He also told the tactical units to find places where crimes happen, especially where kidnappers might be, and make a plan to stop them. He said to be strict about cars on FCT roads – if they don’t have number plates or only have one, stop them.”
“CP Benneth Igweh is ready to fight crime in the Territory, and he asked people to help by reporting anything suspicious. He also said not to take cars along the road or at places that aren’t approved.”
