Liverpool have been left sweating over the fitness of Mohamed Salah after he limped off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah came off injured shortly before half-time during Egypt’s second group game against Ghana.

The prolific winger went down with no one around him and was visibly distraught as he left the pitch, though he was back on the touchline to cheer on his nation later on.

Just seconds after his substitution, Ghana opened the scoring thanks to West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus before three goals in the space of five second-half minutes saw the game finish 2-2.

With just two points from two games, Egypt’s final group game against Cape Verde is surely now a must win affair.

But all eyes are now on Salah, with Liverpool fans praying that their star player and talisman has not too badly injured himself as they bid to win the Premier League title.

The Reds are top of the table, two points clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa, a lead that could be extended this Sunday when they travel to Bournemouth.

Salah did not speak to the media in the mixed zone after the game but Egypt’s manager Rui Vitoria did offer a short update on his captain.

‘We don’t know yet what the problem is. I hope it’s not a big problem,’ he said.

‘It was difficult timing for us because in the second half we could only make two substitutions. I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see.’

So far this season, the 31-year-old has scored 14 goals and made eight assists in 20 appearances for Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp will certainly be hoping the injury is ‘not dangerous’.
