Tottenham are set to boost their forward line with the shock loan signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Spurs moved into the fourth round of the FA Cup last night following a 1-0 win over Burnley, in what was their first match without this season’s top scorer Son Heung-min.

The South Korea international has linked up with his national team squad ahead of this month’s Asia Cup which could see him miss another five matches over the course of the next month.

Round of 16: January 28 to January 31

Quarter-final: February 2 and February 3

Semi-final: February 6 and February 7

Final: February 10

GAMES SON HEUNG-MIN COULD MISS FOR SPURS

Burnley (H) FA Cup – January 5
Man Utd (A) Premier League – January 14
Potential FA Cup fourth-round tie – January 27
Brentford (H) Premier League – January 31
Everton (A) Premier League – February 3
Brighton (H) Premier League – February 10

With youngster Alejo Veliz also on the treatment table, a move for a new striker, capable of playing across the front line, was viewed as imperative by Ange Postecoglou.

Werner returned to RB Leipzig the summer before last after two underwhelming years at Chelsea, characterised by his wayward finishing.

The one-time Bundesliga Golden Boot winner has hardly fared any better back in Germany and has scored just twice this season in 14 appearances.

Despite showing few signs of returning to his once prolific form, Werner had also been attracting interest from Manchester United who, like Spurs, are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements.

According to Sky Germany, however, Spurs are close to sealing a loan deal for the 27-year-old who is primed to leave RB’s winter training camp.
