The defender’s contract had been due to expire at the end of the season and he was free to sign a pre-contract agreement with non-English clubs from January 1st.
However, United have triggered a 12-month extension in his deal, meaning his deal now runs until July 2025.
While there had been some doubt over his future, the Daily Mail say United have indicated they want him to sign a new deal and they’re in talks to hand him an improved salary on his £90,000-a-week deal.

Varane is happy in Manchester but feels the club’s actions are trying to push him out.
The Frenchman has received interest from Bayern Munich and he’s watched on as Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof have both had clauses triggered in their deals.
