Manchester United are in talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka over a new contract at the club after triggering a 12-month extension clause in his current deal.

The defender’s contract had been due to expire at the end of the season and he was free to sign a pre-contract agreement with non-English clubs from January 1st.

However, United have triggered a 12-month extension in his deal, meaning his deal now runs until July 2025.

While there had been some doubt over his future, the Daily Mail say United have indicated they want him to sign a new deal and they’re in talks to hand him an improved salary on his £90,000-a-week deal.

The move is in stark contrast to the treatment of Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the season and United will not trigger an extension in his deal.

That’s because the club want him to take a reduction on his reported £340,000-a-week wages.

Varane is happy in Manchester but feels the club’s actions are trying to push him out.

The Frenchman has received interest from Bayern Munich and he’s watched on as Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof have both had clauses triggered in their deals.
