Tsimikas was forced off in the first half with injury after clattering into his own manager Jurgen Klopp following a battle for the ball with Saka, with the Greek left-back taken to hospital.

News of Tsimikas’ injury is a huge blow for the Reds with fellow left-back Andy Robertson also currently ruled out.

Klopp, speaking after the match between the Premier League title challengers ended in a 1-1 draw, told Sky Sports: ‘It was massively overshadowed by Kostas Tsimikas collarbone issue, definitely broken, so he is out for a long time.

‘The other issues we will have to see. It is hard for us to swallow with the Robbo [Andy Robertson] situation.’

Saka has apologised for the role he played in breaking Tsimikas’ collarbone as he told Sky Sports: ‘I’ve heard he’s gone to hospital so I want to apologise to him.

‘I didn’t mean it, of course. For me it was just a 50-50 and I’ve gone shoulder to shoulder with him.

‘I didn’t see but he must have taken a bad fall, I didn’t see that he went into Jurgen Klopp either. I was focussed on running forward because I didn’t think it was a foul.’

Arsenal’s draw with Liverpool means they sit top of the Premier League table at Christmas, with their next fixture taking place on December 28 with a home game against West Ham.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are back in action on Boxing Day (December 26) with a trip to Burnley.
