The Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs on Monday decried inadequate funding of the Police Service Commission, PSC.

The Committee called on the executive arm of government to reconsider budget allocation that has always been paltry each year and increase it in the interest of effective policing.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Sen. Abdulhaid Madori, stated this during the Commission’s 2024 budget presentation at the National Assembly in Abuja.

He said security was one of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, hence, the budgetary allocation to PSC in 2024 was grossly inadequate.

According to him, the 10th National Assembly was also taking security issues seriously and were ready to support the Commission to enable them perform their duty to alleviate the suffering of the police.

He lamented the poor implementation of budget as one of the major problems of Nigeria but believed that President Tinubu, with the support of the 10th National Assembly led by Senate President Godwill Akpabo, will ensure Nigerians feel the impact of the budget of renewed hope.

The lawmaker insisted that Tinubu could not deliver on his mandate without undertaking critical projects like security and other infrastructure.

Chairman of the Police Service Commission and former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase promised that he would provide the needed leadership at PSC to the pride of Nigerians.

He called for proper funding of the Commission to enable him continue the reform he started upon assumption of office.
