United left Anfield with a draw after a spirited display, which saw Liverpool dominate but fail to score.
Amrabat, a summer loan signing from Fiorentina, lined up alongside Kobbie Mainoo in midfield and Scott McTominay in front of them.
The Moroccan has failed to impress at Old Trafford, and he was United’s worst performer in an otherwise decent performance at Anfield.
But Carragher said Amrabat undermined United’s man-to-man tactics at Anfield because he’s unable to ‘run’.
‘I don’t know why they’re playing a man-to-man system,’ said Carragher.
‘He [Amrabat] can’t run.’
United spent £8m on Amrabat’s loan arrangement and they have the option of signing him for a fee of around £17m.
Amrabat will have a year left on his Fiorentina deal at the end of the season, and there’s likely to be interest from elsewhere.
Casemiro has missed the last two months of action but is expected to return in the next fortnight.
