Primary school teachers in Taraba State have lamented their neglect despite being the driving force behind Governor Agbu Kefas’ free education initiative.
As of December 15, the teachers revealed they were yet to receive their November salaries, sparking concerns among the educators.
Mrs Patricia Nash, a primary school teacher in Jalingo, expressed dismay at the consistent delay in salary payments for teachers in the state.
“It’s unfortunate that many times, we have to wait long into another month before we get our salaries,” she lamented.
She called on the governor to look into their plight and make sure primary school teachers receive their salaries before other civil servants in the State.
Nash emphasized the delays’ impact on the education community’s morale and motivation.
She highlighted the need for Governor Kefas to prioritize timely payment, especially considering the increased costs of basic items in the market, particularly during the festive period.
Other teachers who spoke with Newspot echoed similar sentiments, urging the governor to prioritize the welfare of primary school teachers and ensure prompt salary disbursement.
The educators called for urgent measures to prevent such delays, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and valuing the hard work, dedication, and commitment of teachers in shaping the future of society.
Shuaibu Salihu, a primary school teacher in Yorro council, wrote an open letter to Kefas, urging him to address the matter promptly.
The teachers collectively recommend implementing measures to establish a robust and efficient payment system, guaranteeing the timely disbursement of salaries to prevent any decline in educational standards and students’ achievements.
