Residents of Sabon Lugbe, Lugbe District, Abuja, have requested the government’s immediate intervention to address the worsening condition of the community’s lone access road.

Residents of Aso and Taproot Estates made the plea in an interview with journalists on Monday in Abuja.

The district is made up of various estates and settlements, including Sallybest Estate, Dayspring Estate, Vergas Estate, and KYC Estate, among others.

They said the road was the only way to go from the neighbourhood to the Airport Road, from which they could connect to the rest of the city.

Mr Folorunsho Okeji, Chairman of the Aso Estate Residents Association, said the estate has been in existence for the past 20 years.

Okeji stated that the centre culvert, which acts as primary drainage from other areas, was on the verge of collapsing.

The chairman indicated that if the culvert collapses, it would harm not just the residents of the village but also the nearby settlements and the source of the water.

He added that some sections of the road had considerably degraded and that people had placed expired tyres in dangerous spots to warn unsuspecting road users of the dangers of falling into the pit.

“It is the only road serving us in and out of this community but in the last seven years, more developments have taken place inside the area which has caused an increase in the demand for the road.”
