I just watched an “Oro Tonlo” Podcast by the one and only Baba Gbagede Imo TV based in Abeokuta in Ogun State and moderated by the CEO himself Alhaji Saburi Adebayo Alawiye one of the rising shakers and movers among Social Media TV journalists in Nigeria who once worked in the Nigerian Federal Correctional Institution before dabbling into television Journalism in what he called his BGI TV which is doing a marvelous job based on all of his programs I have watched on YouTube. You can tell that the young man, is a devout but an independent- leaning Muslim who prays 5 times a day and he has the scar to show for it on his forehead.
I like the young man a lot like I do with eloquent Yoruba-gifted star performer in Akanda Oro Awikonko based in Ile Ife or Ibadan.
BGI TV is a private television studio only made possible because of the impact of Satellite Technology in most parts of the World.
Most Nigerians erroneously think that Cell Technology in Nigeria was part of the legacies and accomplishments of the Obasanjo’s Presidency from 1999 to 2007 but they were wrong. He was only lucky that the Technology came to Nigeria during his tenure, like it did in other parts of the World where it was embraced as a fait accompli and a new Technology no head of Government in his right senses could have rejected or ignored or opposed.
Former President Obasanjo did not invent the internet or Computer or Cell Phone Technology which have made it possible for Nigerians and every Dick and Harry including illiterate Market Women all over the world to own and to operate a Cell Phone and be able to directly pick up calls from their children overseas and to even stay in touch with their customers and their friends and neighbors at home.
Obasanjo, as Head of Government, had the rare privilege of helping Nigerians to control or regulate the cost of the new technology to Nigerians by doing what was done in America and other advance countries where you don’t have to depend on buying data every day at prohibitive prices to run your phone.
Poor Nigerians therefore spend millions of Naira buying expensive data to keep their phone running 24 hours a day In order not to miss calls when they are forced to switch off their phones just to save their data which make Cell Phone Technology Entrepreneurs and business magnates in Nigeria like Otedola and Michael Adenuga to feed fat on selling data which quickly burn out while they all become filthy-rich at the expense of poor Nigerians who have become addicted to their Cell phones and can go without food to keep their phones working by buying data everyday.
Our Government and our politicians in the meantime loot our Treasury while pretending to lead and to govern the country and by giving themselves Christmas Bonus of 300 million Naira each and by buying for themselves a 180 million Naira Bullet-proof cars and SUVs at the expense of the tax payers.
In America or in the UK you pay your CellPhone bills once a month and you only have to buy data sparingly unlike what happens in Nigeria and most third world countries where they live and die by spending money they don’t have on data everyday.
The Tinubu- led Government would be considered a total failure, if in 6 months after taking power he and his Security Czar Nuhu Ribadu a former Assistant Inspector General Police and the one time Chairman of the EFCC have still not been able to do something concrete about the security conundrum of Nigeria.
Kidnapping on the only Super Highway linking Lagos with the rest of the country from Ibadan to the Commercial Capital of Nigeria with a population of closeto 12 million the last time I checked, has become a daily nightmare.
Mr. Saburi Alawiye in his Podcast I watched on YouTube today had brought to his Studio one Mr IfeOluwa Oludiran who was kidnapped at gun point in broad daylight with his wife and 2 little children less than 40 miles to downtown Lagos.
Mr. Oludiran and his wife and two children were dragged out of their car and taken to the Bush to be molested and traumatized by their kidnappers in broad day light without being rescued by Security Patrol on that Highway. It was a big shame!
I could not help shedding tears as I watched the man narrate his experience to his interviewer in tears
I could not control my emotions as I watched a Nigerian soldier in the rank of a Major or Lieutenant Colonel named Christopher Musa narrate in lucid language the ordeals the Nigerian Military and Law Enforcement face in working in collaboration with the Police, the Correctional Officers and the Judiciary In Nigeria to protect the country from all of the porous borders of Nigeria with other countries like Niger, Chad Cameroons and Togo.
We all can simply call Niger as an extension of Nigeria because all previous Administrations in Nigeria and the Buhari Administration in particular in 8 years of dereliction have turned the French colony of Niger as part and parcel of Nigeria because the people all speak Hausa and we have one or two of the northern states of Nigeria sharing borders with Niger
That reality on the ground has compounded the problem to actually be able to check the inflow of illegal immigrants from Niger to Nigeria
We are told how the incursions of Boko Haram and ISIS insurgents from Iraq, Iran and Lebanon and the influx of itinerant Fulanis and their Cattle from the West African sub region has added more to the problems of Nigeria, not to talk of the problems of Cattle Rearing Fulanis from many of the northern states who have more or less taken over the Southern half of the country from coast to coast and from Sea to Shining Sea in all of the 36 States of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.
The million Dollar question is where does Nigeria go from here? It is a legitimate question to ask and I dare ask it with all the emphasis at my command with this article by calling on President Tinubu and his Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to please bail out the country and the suffering Masses of Nigeria.
Nigerians don’t have a country if our security is not guaranteed in all of the roads, the rail roads and the Highways of Nigeria.as revealed in that powerful Podcast today.
Which tourists in his right senses would dare want to visit Nigeria under those security lapses?
How for goodness sake does the RCCG Holy Ghost and the Redemption Camp on Mile 46 of the Lagos/ Ibadan Expressway bring in millions of worshippers every month to their City of God in the outskirts of Lagos Metropolis?
If the Lagos/
Ibadan Express in Nigeria is not safe from Kidnappers, no other place can be considered safe in Nigeria.
President Tinubu must understand that and take urgent action to address all of these problems before it is too late.
I rest my case.
