Potter, brought into replace Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge in September 2022, was dismissed just seven months into his five-year contract after winning only seven of his 22 Premier League games in charge.

The 48-year-old is still to return to management but was shortlisted for the Sweden job with current coach Janne Andersson leaving the role this week after failing to secure qualification for next summer’s European Championship.

Swedish FA secretary general Andrea Mollerberg revealed last month Potter was one of the names under consideration.

But Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet report he has turned down the chance to be considered for the role.

Potter reportedly indicated that his preference is to return to club football.

Potter rose to prominence managing in Sweden in charge of Ostersunds from 2011 to 2018. After a year at Swansea City, he was brought in by Brighton to replace Chris Hughton.
