Workers in Ondo State on Tuesday partially complied with the indefinite strike ordered by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

While monitoring the situation in Akure, the state capital, it was observed that the offices at the State Secretariat in the Alagbaka axis, particularly the Governor’s Office, had workers at their desks without any compliance with the NLC, TUC directive.

At the Federal Secretariat, Igbatoro, it was a ghost town as the car park looked deserted with no sign of any civil service activities.

According to one of the security operatives, some senior personnel who later left the complex arrived in the morning, but junior workers stayed away.

At the Ondo State Sports Complex, the gate was closed to athletes due to the strike action, but some workers were allowed to go into their offices.

Meanwhile, the state chapters of the NLC and TUC have ordered workers to join the indefinite nationwide strike as directed by the national leadership of the two bodies.

A statement signed by the NLC Chairman in the state, Comrade Victor Amoko, and TUC Chairman, Comrade Clement Fatuase, said “workers in the state are advised to comply with the strike directive appropriately.”

The Ondo organised labour insisted that the strike was not against the state government but to protest against impunity in the country.
