This was part of the resolutions of the House, after it was considered a Matter of General Public Importance, entitled “Need to curb criminal activities of scavengers in the state”.

The motion was moved by the House Leader, Abdulkadir Magaji, representing Ilorin Central constituency, during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Magaji observed that most of the so-called scavengers were engaging in theft and other unwholesome acts.

Other lawmakers, in their separate submissions, canvassed that scavengers be outrightly banned from operating in the state, in view of their security threats.

They took turns to narrate their personal experiences on the havoc wrecked by scavengers in their constituencies under the guise of economic survival.

The lawmakers asked the scavengers to limit their activities to dumpsites, instead of loitering within communities and residential areas.

Reading the house resolution on the matter, the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, urged Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to direct the state Ministry of Environment to register an association for those involved in scavenging for proper profiling.
