The Traditional Ruler of Abavo Kingdom in Delta State, Uche Irenuma II, has urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure that the electrification contract in his community is executed according to the job specifications and contractual agreement, or terminate it.
The contract for electrification was awarded during the tenure of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.
However, the contractor has failed to deliver on the project, depriving the community of its benefits.
The monarch made this appeal during the grand finale of the New Yam Festival at his palace over the weekend.
He called on the state government to remove any hindrances impeding the execution of the Abavo electrification step-down project in the community.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the substandard work done by the contractor, the monarch stated that the firm lacked the competence, technical knowledge, and expertise needed to execute the project.
Members of the Obi-in-Council also emphasised the significance of the electricity project to the community, highlighting the new yam festival as an age-old tradition to appreciate God for a bountiful harvest.
